Catching the Action While Headed to Dawson Saddle

The drive from Morro Bay to Dawson Saddle was long... It was made even longer when we found out the Angeles Crest Highway was closed between Glendale and Wrightwood. We had to drive all the way around to the eastern side of the mountains to go in the back way.

This is a photo of us driving through Solvang. I had Stage 5 of the Tour of California live on the iPad Slingbox app. That is my iPad in the upper right. I was using the iPad to access Kevin's Slingbox that is hooked up to his DirectTV DVR. Live TV in a Westy driving through California's Central Coast... I love technology!

Lance and Josh in EDH

The rider in the center with the number 2 is Lance Armstrong. Josh is sitting on the median. This is stage 1 as it went through El Dorado Hills. Even though they weren't chasing the group ahead of them very hard, the peleton (main group of riders) flew by us. Josh was taking video here. His video turned out great. I can't post it until I get home though.

We are headed up the mountain to Dawson Saddle right now to camp out and wait for Stage 6 to go through tomorrow. It is going to be an epic stage. Three riders, all favorites, are within 10 seconds of each other. Lance crashed out today. That shouldn't effect Levi. Levi is the leader for Radio Shack in this race. Lance was riding as Levi's support. Levi is trying to win his 4th tour of California in a row. Dave Zibriskie is beating him by 10 seconds through 5 stages.

If there isn't any separation between the race leaders after tomorrow. The time trial in LA Saturday will be huge!

Elephant Seal Party!

The elephant seals at Point Piedras Blancas were crazy. We didn't know we were going to see this. We were driving down 101 and saw these things sunning themselves on the beach. The "Elephant Seal Docent" told me the seals are molting their skin. They will lay around for 4-6 weeks as they molt. After that, they will swim north to find food. This is only one of a few beaches covered with them.

I Won Stage 3!

OK... I didn't. It was pretty cool to hold the surf board that the winner held a few hours later. I was at the finish before he was, but he had to work a "little" harder to get there.

A beautiful day and place for the finish of Stage 3 in Santa Cruz.
